The Ragdoll takes its name from its tendency to relax and go limp when held. It is a large breed that stands out for its colourpoint pattern, blue eyes and semi-long coat.
Character and temperament
Calm, gentle and people-focused. It likes to follow its family around the house and be close to them. It usually gets along well with children and other animals, and has a soft nature that prefers avoiding conflict.
Exercise and mental needs
Moderately active; daily play and calm exploring time are enough. Its gentle nature makes it very well suited to indoor life. Regular play is important for maintaining an ideal weight.
Coat care
Its semi-long, silky coat lacks a dense undercoat, so it tangles less than many other long-haired breeds. Brushing once or twice a week is usually enough.
Who is it suited to?
Ideal for families looking for a calm, affectionate cat that stays close to its people. Ragdolls don't much like being alone.
A short history
Developed in the 1960s in the US state of California.
