En resumen

  • Young bettas grow fast; colors and fins develop now.
  • They need a cycled, filtered and heated aquarium.
  • Feed small, frequent meals without leaving leftovers.
  • Male bettas become aggressive toward each other as they mature and must be kept apart.
  • Water quality is the most important part of their care.

The juvenile stage runs from hatching to about 4 months of age. Some of the bettas seen in pet shops are still at the end of this stage, with colors and fins still developing.

What is happening in this stage?

  • Growth is fast; fins lengthen and colors intensify.
  • Territorial behavior begins in males.
  • They explore the tank and get into the habit of gulping air at the surface.

What should you do differently?

  • Aquarium: A fully cycled, covered, heated tank with a gentle current.
  • Diet: Small betta granules or pellets, a little at a time several times a day.
  • Separate housing: Keep males apart and avoid fin-nipping tank mates.
  • Setting: Plants, resting leaves and hiding places.

What should you monitor?

  • Water values (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate) and temperature
  • Appetite and swimming
  • Fin condition
  • Color changes

Expected behavior

Exploring, frequent trips to the surface for air, flaring fins at their reflection or other bettas, and first attempts at building bubble nests may all be seen.

Reminders

  • Weekly partial water change and water test
  • Daily temperature check
  • Filter maintenance (rinse filter media in tank water)

Next stage

From about 4 months your betta enters the adult stage.

Los rangos de edad son aproximados; las diferencias dentro de una especie (como el tamaño en los perros) pueden adelantar o retrasar las transiciones.
