Les échelles de 1 à 5 sont des estimations éditoriales de PetBondly fondées sur les descriptions des clubs de race et des sources générales ; chaque animal est différent.
The Border Collie is regarded as one of the world's most skilled sheep-herding breeds. Behind that talent lies an extraordinary capacity to learn and a lot of energy.
Character and temperament
Highly intelligent, alert, focused on its owner and sensitive. It learns fast, which also means it can learn unwanted habits quickly. Its herding instinct can lead it to try to "gather" moving bikes, cars or children.
Exercise and mental needs
It has high physical and very high mental needs. Besides long daily walks, mentally tiring activities such as training, agility, frisbee and scent work are essential. A Border Collie without enough to do can develop obsessive behaviors.
Coat care
It has a medium-length or short double coat. Brushing a few times a week is enough, with more frequent care during shedding periods.
Who is it suited to?
Ideal for active owners who can dedicate time every day to both physical and mental work and are interested in dog sports. Not suited to a sedentary lifestyle.
A short history
Developed as a herding dog in the border region between England and Scotland.
