Kurz gesagt
- Bettas are tropical fish and need a heated, filtered, cycled aquarium.
- Overfeeding spoils the water; feed small, measured amounts.
- Plants, resting leaves and hides enrich the aquarium.
- Male bettas cannot be kept together.
- Regular water tests and partial water changes are the most important routine.
Adulthood runs from about 4 months to 3 years of age. Your betta has reached full color and fin length, and its personality and habits become clear.
What is happening in this stage?
- Colors and fins are at their most striking.
- Males may build bubble nests, which is ordinary behavior.
- They may recognize you and come to the front of the tank at feeding time.
What should you do differently?
- Aquarium: Heated, filtered, with a gentle current, and fully cycled.
- Diet: Betta pellets or granules, varied now and then with suitable frozen foods. Offer only what they eat in a few minutes.
- Enrichment: Plants, resting leaves near the surface and hiding spots to explore; some keepers use short mirror sessions with care.
- Tank mates: If you plan any, research and choose peaceful species that don't nip fins.
What should you monitor?
- Water values and temperature
- Appetite and swimming (lying on the side, loss of balance)
- Fin edges and body color
- The look of the belly (bloating)
Expected behavior
Gulping air at the surface, building bubble nests, flaring at their reflection and resting on plant leaves are normal at this stage.
Reminders
- Weekly partial water change and water test
- Daily temperature check
- Filter maintenance
Next stage
From about 3 years of age your betta enters the senior stage.
Die Altersspannen sind Näherungswerte; Unterschiede innerhalb einer Art (etwa die Größe bei Hunden) können die Übergänge verschieben.
