Bearded dragon · Life stages

Approximate age ranges for Bearded dragon and the priorities of each stage.

  1. 1

    Juvenile

    Birth – 7 months

Bearded dragons grow very fast in their first months; correct heat, UVB lighting and frequent, appropriately sized meals are the top priorities of this stage.

  2. 2

    Adolescent

    7 months – 18 months

Between 7 and 18 months, bearded dragons' growth slows and their diet starts shifting from insects toward plants.

  3. 3

    Adult

    18 months – 7 years

Between 18 months and 7 years, bearded dragons settle into long adult years. A plant-heavy diet, correct heat and UVB, exercise and weight control are the foundation of this stage.

  4. 4

    Senior

    7 years and older

Bearded dragons can show signs of ageing from about 7 years of age. Easy-to-reach basking spots, an adapted diet and close monitoring make this stage more comfortable.

Age ranges are approximate; differences within a species (such as size in dogs) can shift the transitions earlier or later.
