Dog · Life stages

Approximate age ranges for Dog and the priorities of each stage.

  1. 1

    Puppy

    Birth – 6 months

The first months are full of rapid growth, exploration and learning. The foundations laid now, from socialisation to toilet training, shape your dog's whole life.

  2. 2

    Adolescent

    6 months – 18 months

"He knew everything, and now he's forgotten it all!" Adolescence is a time of testing limits, growing independence and high energy. With patience and consistency, this stage becomes the foundation of a confident adulthood.

  3. 3

    Adult

    18 months – 7 years

Adulthood is when your dog's character settles and the stage you'll share longest. The priorities are keeping an ideal weight, keeping body and mind active, and continuing preventive care.

  4. 4

    Senior

    7 years and older

Old age is slower, but often a calmer and closer time together. Increasing comfort, protecting routine and noticing changes early are the keys to this stage.

Age ranges are approximate; differences within a species (such as size in dogs) can shift the transitions earlier or later.
