The 1–5 scales are PetBondly editorial estimates based on breed-club descriptions and general references; every individual is different.

The Exotic Shorthair has the round face and calm temperament of the Persian but a much shorter, denser, plush-textured coat, which is why it is sometimes called "the short-haired Persian".

Character and temperament

Calm, gentle and affectionate. It is attached to its people and prefers a peaceful home. It can be a little more playful than the Persian.

Exercise and mental needs

Exercise needs are low to moderate. Short daily play is enough for fitness and mental stimulation.

Coat care

The coat is short but very dense; brushing once or twice a week is enough. Gently cleaning around the eyes regularly is part of grooming.

Who is it suited to?

Ideal for owners who love the Persian's character but can't give time to daily long-coat care.

A short history

Developed in the United States in the 1960s by crossing Persians with short-haired breeds.
