The Siamese is one of the world's best-known cat breeds. It is instantly recognisable by its pale body with darker face, ears, paws and tail tips (the "pointed" pattern) and almond-shaped blue eyes.
Character and temperament
A very sociable, curious and vocal breed that loves to "chat" with its owner. It bonds tightly with its people and expects attention. It doesn't like being left alone for long.
Exercise and mental needs
Energetic and clever. Daily play, climbing spaces, food puzzles and even learning simple tricks keep it happy. Without mental activity it may show unwanted behaviors.
Coat care
It has a short, fine coat that lies close to the body; weekly brushing is enough.
Who is it suited to?
Ideal for owners who spend a lot of time with their cat and enjoy a "talkative" companion that wants attention. If no one is home during the day, a second cat may be worth considering.
A short history
The breed originates in today's Thailand (formerly Siam) and was brought to Europe in the late 19th century.
