Sphynx
Its hairless look may surprise at first, but the Sphynx is an extremely sociable, affectionate cat that loves warmth. Skin care takes the place of coat care.

The Sphynx is a breed that is hairless or covered in very fine down as the result of a natural genetic change. It is known for its skin folds, large ears and people-focused character.
Character and temperament
Very sociable, affectionate and curious; it loves being the centre of attention. It usually gets along well with people and other animals, and dislikes being left alone.
Exercise and mental needs
Energetic and playful, it needs daily games, climbing spaces and mental stimulation.
Skin care
Without a coat, natural oils build up on the skin, so regular (usually weekly or fortnightly) gentle bathing and cleaning of the ears, paws and skin folds are needed. Having no coat to protect it, it is sensitive to cold: a warm home, blankets and, if needed, cat clothing help. Avoid long exposure to sun.
Who is it suited to?
Ideal for owners who can give frequent care and lots of attention and offer a warm home. Being "hairless" does not make it suitable for everyone with allergies; if you have allergies, consult your doctor first.
A short history
The breed began in the 1960s in Canada with a naturally hairless kitten and was developed over the following years.
