Goldfish · Life stages
Approximate age ranges for Goldfish and the priorities of each stage.
- 1
Juvenile
Birth – 1 yearsGoldfish grow fast in their first year and can become much larger than many people expect. A large, well-filtered, cycled aquarium should be planned from this stage.
- 2
Adult
1 years – 9 yearsBetween 1 and 9 years, goldfish enjoy long, social adult years. A large aquarium, strong filtration, regular water changes and measured feeding are the foundation of this stage.
- 3
Senior
9 years and olderGoldfish are considered seniors from about 9 years of age and, in good conditions, can live for many more years. A calm aquarium, stable water quality and close monitoring make this stage more comfortable.
Age ranges are approximate; differences within a species (such as size in dogs) can shift the transitions earlier or later.
